Leading Effective Meetings Whether you are responsible for running staff meetings or holding ad hoc meetings in various settings, leading a productive meeting can often feel like “herding cats.” In this course, we will explore the elements of effective meetings, including prior planning for managing their structure, process, content and the physical environment. Ways to make all members feel like valued contributors, stages of group development, group member roles (such as naysayer, clown, disrupter) and how to respond respectfully to each also will be explored. Participants will gain an increased understanding of group development, Enhanced skills in managing difficult group members and improved skills in planning and implementing effective meetings. Understanding and Working with Gay, Lesbian, Bisexual, Transgender and Questioning Youth and Adults This course will provide an introduction to the unique needs and realities of youth and adults who identify as gay, lesbian, bisexual, transgender or “questioning.” Human services professionals in many settings will benefit from this opportunity to increase their knowledge about basic concepts related sexual orientation and gender identity, as well as gain an understanding of the specific challenges and barriers that GLBTQ people face. The training will include strategies for working effectively with GLBTQ individuals and for overcoming institutional and personal barriers to providing culturally competent services to this population. This course has been approved for 7 CEU’s for teachers, social workers, counselors and mental health therapists.
